EXETER CITY v BRAZIL
Centenary Match

30th May 2004

Exeter City FC
St James's Park
Exeter, Devon EX4 6PX

As the centrepiece of Exeter City FC's centenary celebrations on May 30th
at St James's Park, the non-League club is to play a star-studded
Brazilian XI containing household names from the sides which competed in
the 1990, 1994 and 1998 World Cup finals. A little-known fact is that
Exeter City were the Brazilian national team's first ever professional
opponents. They met at Rio de Janeiro's picturesque Laranjeiras Stadium on
July 21st 1914, during a tour of South America by the Devon club. The
match on May 30th might therefore be considered the overdue return leg of
that encounter, which finished in a 3-3 draw. The 'Brazil Masters' will
include Dunga, who led the 1994 World Cup-winning side. Their captain and
manager on May 30th will be Branco, a dominant figure in the 1994 team who
later came to England to play with Middlesbrough.

Brazil Masters squad: Branco, Dunga, Paulo Roberto, Paulo Sergio, Careca,
Jorginho, Silas, Nelsinho, Valber, Mauricinho, Goncalves, Ricardo Rocha,
Alexandre Torres, Wellerson, Wagner, Mazinho.
